SEBUYAU: Two more offshore oil and gas fields in Sarawak have been discovered by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed that the national oil corporation had informed him of this latest development.
“Besides the oil and gas discoveries in Central Luconia and the Baram Delta recently, there are two more new discoveries.
“Meaning, in this case, based on our Commercial Settlement Agreement (CSA), we are going to do our part in developing those areas through Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros),” he told a press conference after launching the Batang Lupar Bridge earth-breaking ceremony today.
He added that Petronas would issue an official statement on the new discoveries soon.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari said Sarawak had the right to get its oil and gas revenue through the State Sales Tax (SST).
“In Sarawak, we have the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 (OMO), and the federal government has got to recognise our rights.
“As such, under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA) together with OMO, we have our rights in oil and gas,” he said.
“… and what we do is based on our rights in the Constitution,” he said.
On Feb 10, Petronas confirmed a gas discovery at the Lang Lebah-2 exploration appraisal well in Block SK410B Production Sharing Contract (PSC) located in Central Luconia, 80km off the coast of Sarawak.
It said the Lang Lebah-2 exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 4,320 metres in mid-January 2021 with over 600 metres of proven net gas pay.
