MIRI: Two more women from Miri have fallen prey to parcel scam syndicates.
Both were conned by male aquaintances they befriended on Facebook.
Sarawak Commercial CID chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah disclosed that total losses were estimated to be RM9,800.
He added the first case involved a 34-year-old housewife.
“The victim befriended a man who claimed to be from the United Kingdom (UK) on March 13 this year. He told her he had sent her a parcel,” said Mustafa.
On April 24, she received a call, allegedly from the Customs Department, asking her to pay for the release of the parcel.
She was later asked to bank in RM3,800 for the release process.
In the second case, a 27-year-old woman lost her life saving of RM6,000.
“The modus operandi was similar to the first victim,” said Mustafa.
Meanwhile, in another case involving a non-existent loan, two individuals fell prey.
Total loss was estimated to be RM47,140.
The first victim was a contractor while the second victim was a female sales assistant.
