KOTA SAMARAHAN: Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday officiated at the closing ceremony of Skilled Human Capital Development Conference 2017 at DeTAR Putra, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).

The conference was conducted by Unimas in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources, Sarawak State Government, Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK), Chief Executive Officer of Faculty, Leadership Institute and Serian Foundation.

Held until yesterday from 21st August, the objective of the three-day was to support the strategic development of Sarawak through well-planned skills development of human resources.

It focused on four tracks of discussion which were talent management, organisational change, human resource practices, and technical and vocational education.

“It is indeed our great pleasure to acknowledge such a great effort to have planned and organised a conference of this nature in Sarawak. We need more and more skilled human capital to meet the demands of our industrial development programmes,” said Johari.

“While pursuing the dream of becoming an industrialised economy, we also want to be a digitised economy that will open our economy to unlimited opportunities for the younger generations.

“A digital economy knows no political or physical boundaries and in Asia, it would  enable us to reach out to more than three billion consumers,

“Digital economy is something that should give a lot of hope to our young people,” he said.

Johari also hoped that the universities and other educational institutions would be able to play their reciprocal roles in education and training in the industrial and digital sectors.

“If we can train enough number of our local people to do a lot of things that we cannot do now, we can greatly reduce our reliance and dependence on foreign workers,” he pointed out.
