SIBU: Two motorists have been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in an operation dubbed ‘Op Mabuk’ last Friday (July 26).

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division from 10pm to 1.30am along Jalan Channel.

“Two local men, aged 38 and 47, were held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Both will be investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit,” he said.

If convicted, the drivers could be jailed for a maximum of two years and fined up to RM30,000 if found guilty in court.

Throughout the operation, the team also detected various traffic offences by motorists and issued summonses against them.
