KUCHING: Traffic police arrested two locals on suspicion of driving under influence of alcohol in ‘Ops Mabuk’ recently.
According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the operation was held at Jalan Tabuan, Kuching which commenced at 11 pm on Jan 25 and ended at 3 am, Jan 26.
The operation led to the arrest of two locals suspected of drink driving after evidential breath analyser (EBA) tests indicated alcohol content that exceeded the limit.
The two drivers are being investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
If convicted, they may face penalties of up to RM10,000 fine or up to five years’ jail and potential five-year licence disqualification.
The traffic police also issued 14 traffic summonses for various traffic offenses after inspecting 98 people in 81 vehicles.
The police reminded road users to obey the laws of the road, particularly to the issue of driving under the influence.
In addition, they stressed that strict and uncompromising actions will be taken against those found driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
