KUCHING: Two new positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in this district on Tuesday (Dec 8), bringing the cumulative total in the state to 1,072.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cases were categorised as imported cases.
The first case involved an Indonesian citizen and the twin of Case 1,067 who was detected and admitted to the quarantine centre for having close contact.
“The case underwent rT-PCR Covid-19 screening on Dec 7 at a quarantine centre and tested positive for the virus.
“Based on the investigation, the case, who originated from Kalimantan, Indonesia entered Sarawak in mid-November. This case is also believed to have entered the country illegally as there is no data of the case’s entry into Sarawak along with Case 1067.
“Based on the history of the case’s movement, this case is categorized as Import A case,” said SDMC in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 8).
The second case involved a Kelantanese who entered Sarawak to report at a training centre here.
“The case entered Sarawak on December 6 and was undergoing the mandatory 14-day quarantine at a quarantine centre. The case also underwent rT-PCR screening on the same day and was found positive on December 8.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, this case underwent Covid-19 screening on November 19 in his home state and was found to be negative,” said SDMC.
The committee said there were also no additional cases to the four existing active clusters in Sarawak.
It added that two newly recovered cases had been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“This brings the total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,037 or 96.74 percent of the total cases recorded in Sarawak,” it said.
