KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new positive Covid-19 cases here on Sunday (Nov 8) — one each in Kuching and Miri — bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 987.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said case 986 is a local male senior citizen who underwent Covid-19 screening at a private hospital on Saturday (Nov 7). His result came back positive on the same day.
“The case began to experience coughing and shortness of breath on Nov 4. He has been admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment,” it said.
Meanwhile, case 987 is a local man who underwent screening before signing on a ship at a private hospital in Miri on Nov 6.
His rT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test result came back positive on Sunday (Nov 8). The case has been admitted to the isolation ward at Miri Hospital.
“Both cases are still under investigation and contact tracing are underway. Until a complete investigation is conducted, both cases are categorised as local infections,” it added.
SDMC also announced that the Putra Cluster in Bintulu has ended on Sunday (Nov 8).
This leaves Sarawak with five clusters — Baki Cluster, Greenhill Cluster, Wisma Saberkas Cluster, Bah Arnab Cluster and Seladah Cluster.
Apart from that, there were seven new recovery and discharged cases from SGH, bringing the number of recoveries and discharged cases to 819 or 82.98 percent.
As of Sunday (Nov 8), 149 cases are still receiving treatment at hospitals — 119 in isolation wards in SGH, 26 in Miri Hospital and two each in Bintulu and Sibu Hospitals.
Meanwhile, three new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and one is awaiting laboratory test results.
Kuching is still declared as a red zone, while Miri, Lundu and Limbang are yellow zones. Other 36 districts in the state remained as green zones.
