KUCHING: Two women died in a fire that destroyed two homes in Kampung Sekaan Kecil, Matu Daro, about 660 km north from here early this morning.
The remains of Sedah Sahari, in her late 80s, and a disabled woman known as Remie Mesie, in her 50s, were found in the living room of one of the houses involved in the fire which occurred at about 2 am this morning.
Another resident of the same house, Abdul Razak Mesie, 40, suffered shortness of breath, while four others from the other house escaped with no injuries.
Sarawak Fire Operations Centre said that the incident was reported at 2.09 am and the bodies of the two victims had been turned over to police for further action.
A team of eight members from the Daro Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene shortly after receiving the report but found that the fire had totally engulfed both houses. – Bernama
