MIRI: A 38-year-old man was devastated after his pet bird was swallowed by a one-metre long python this morning.

The incident happened at Kampung Luak, here. The reptile was found coiled inside a cage outside the house in which the pet owner kept the bird.

The man discovered his pet missing around 7.25am when he went to feed it. Instead, he was shocked to see the snake and alerted the Civil Defence Force (APM).

Five Miri APM personnel who were sent to the house managed to remove the reptile from the cage and released it back to its natural habitat.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, another python was caught at the parking lot of the Miri Times Square in the wee hours today.

The 2.5 metre long snake was found slithering into the area by a security guard around 1.15am.

A team of Miri APM personnel rushed to the scene and managed to remove the reptile.
