PADAWAN: Police here arrested two men on suspicion of engaging in gambling activities in an eatery at Mile 7, Jalan Penrissen on Saturday (Feb 4).

The operation codenamed ‘Ops Dadu’ was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at around 3.15 pm.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad when contacted, said the suspects were detained as they were suspected to be engaging in selling gambling top-ups at the premises.

“One of the suspects, a 35-year-old foreigner, will be investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for engaging in illegal lottery number sales.

“He will also be investigated under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said.

Whereas, the other suspect (a 33-year-old local) will be investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for engaging in online gambling top-up sales.

Background checks found that the local suspect had a past record for online gambling offence.

Also seized during the operation were two pieces of paper with suspected lottery numbers, two phones and cash amounting to RM344.

Abang Zainal added that both suspects admitted to being agents of selling unlicensed public lottery numbers and selling online gambling top-ups.
