Two women placed under peace bond for stealing

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here ordered two local women to maintain a six-month peace bond for stealing snacks and instant tea from a grocery store.

Nurshadatul Akma Jeffery, 33, and Marani Rais, 52, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

They committed the offense at Wisma Wan, Tabuan Jaya around 1.45pm on July 16.

According to the case facts, the store manager noticed the duo in a suspicious manner at the premises. The manager and three other employees later followed the women and apprehended them at the parking lot.

Upon inspections, they found 13 packets of cuttlefish snacks and five packets of instant tea which were unpaid for.

A police report was filed and the women were arrested around 2.15pm on the same day. The estimated loss incurred was RM46.80.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case, while the women were unrepresented by counsels.

For the record, Marani Rais was also charged in the Magistrate’s Court under Section 379 of the Penal Code for rummaging through a woman’s handbag and stealing her iPhone 14 Pro Max.

She committed the offense at the MBKS Kuching Food Festival on Aug 2, 2023.
