TYT and wife pay last respects to Dayang Meliah, sister of Premier

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar paid his last respects to Dayang Meliah Tun Openg, eldest sister of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, today.

Dayang Meliah,  passed away at the Normah Medical Centre at 1.50 this morning.

She was 89.

Wan Junaidi arrived at No. 54 Seri Minangkabau 1, Jalan Muhibbah with his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi at around 10 am to pay their last respects, before joining in the funeral prayers led by the Chief Imam of Sarawak, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and her mother, former Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Mordiah Tuanku Fauzi, also paid their last respects.

The body of the late Dayang Meliah will later be taken to the Semariang Islamic Cemetery for burial after Zohor prayers.

She is the third among 10 children of the late Tun Abang Openg Abang Sapiee, Sarawak’s first post-colonial Governor.
