SIBU: One hundred and fifty less fortunate people in Sibu received contributions from the Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud during a high tea gathering yesterday held in conjunction with his 82nd birthday celebration.
The recipients comprised senior citizens (40 people), the disabled (30 people), children (40 people) and general public needing the aid (40 people). Tun Pehin Sri Taib was accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib.
There was also a pulut kuning-cutting ceremony performed by Taib and Ragad witnessed by other dignitaries. Those attending were treated to food and drinks and a number of entertainment and cultural performances. Later, Taib proceeded to launch the ‘Dirgahayu Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Petua Negeri Sarawak’ exhibition in the Sibu Islamic Complex.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and his wife Datin Sri Pauline Leong, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, and Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee were among those present.
