KUCHING: More than 1,000 participants attended the hour-long Islamic Affairs Forum held at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya here last night (Apr 25).
The forum titled ‘Stand equally tall, sit equally low’ was organised by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in conjunction with the 60th National Conference of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI) Education Coordination Committee (JPPIK).
The core focus of the forum was to strengthen Islamic education institutions, stressing the shared responsibility to ensure their competitiveness against other educational institutions.
Ustaz Hariri Daud from JAKIM was the moderator along with three panellists, namely chairman of JPPIK MKI Tan Sri Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom; Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin; and Deputy Dean of Industry and Community Networks, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim.
The forum also delved into the role of Islamic education in addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence technology.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi Taib graced the occasion.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Sarawak Islamic Council President Datuk Misnu Taha, JAKIM director-general Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff, and Army Eastern Field Commander Lt-Gen Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi.
