KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy call from the organising committee of the National Day celebration led by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in Demak Jaya here today.
The purpose of the courtesy call was to invite Taib and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib to attend the state-level celebration which will be held in Simanggang, Sri Aman this year.
Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Youth and Sports, informed that various interesting events would be held in conjunction with the celebration.
The highlight will be a ‘Unity Walk’ event on the morning of Aug 31 which will involve 250 participants in traditional costumes walking about 1.5km around Simanggang town.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will also attend the event.
Among those present during the courtesy call were Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Industries and Investment Assistant Minister Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan and State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion.
