KUCHING: Newly appointed Head of State Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar took the opportunity to engage with religious leaders of different faiths at a hotel here on Saturday night (Jan 27).

He and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended a dinner with religious leaders who are also members of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

During the dinner, Wan Junaidi interacted with the attendees and also had discussions related to UNIFOR matters.

Among those present were UNIFOR director Jack Aman, Kuching Roman Catholic Church Archbishop Simon, Anglican Diocese of Kuching Revd Canon Bradley Sangan and Sikh Temple Kuching president Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira.

Representatives from various religious communities included Chin Chia Chau (Baha’i), Prema Maniam (Hindu Sangam), Datuk Seri Tay Chin Kin (Buddhist), Kapitan Tan Kok Chang (Tao), Wallace Paul Kilat (Iban Methodist Church), as well as delegates from Anglican missionary schools and the Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC) also joined the dinner.

Earlier, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah arrived at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur.

He assumed the position as the eighth Head of State on Jan 26, replacing Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
