KUCHING: The U.S. Embassy in Malaysia has praised Sarawak as a culturally diverse state with the potential to become a significant contributor to the empowerment of artificial intelligence (AI) in the future.

U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard D Kagan, stated that collaboration with Sarawak through the ‘American Corner Sarawak’ clearly demonstrates the state’s commitment to advancing new technologies while maintaining its racial harmony.

“What we have learned here is that the people of Sarawak have their own distinct level and standard of community compared to other places, and they are aware of global events, including those in the United States.

“This two-decade-long partnership is invaluable to all of us, and I feel very fortunate to be here with such dedicated individuals, especially the people of Sarawak,” he said.

He made these remarks during his speech at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of American Corner Sarawak, held at the Sarawak State Library, today (Oct 18).

Kagan added that they would continue to focus on the digital economy, a priority that has been discussed since the partnership began 20 years ago.

“The ability to innovate and adapt is critical, and what we see here is that the youth and the younger generation are intelligent, quick to learn, and understand the technologies we aspire to develop.

“Undoubtedly, it is a source of pride to witness the next generation achieving the goals we are aiming for,” he said.

Earlier, the event was attended by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.

The American Corner Sarawak programme began with a diplomat sharing session by U.S. Public Diplomacy Officer, Nurit Einik, followed by an AI generative workshop for teachers and students, facilitated by a lecturer from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Syahrul Nizam Junaini.
