KAPIT: Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong has lauded Kapit District Council for organising the Local Agenda 21 (LA 21) and community development programmes in the rural areas which saw the involvement of various government agencies. He also noted that the council had carried out LA21 and community development programmes which focused on health and environmental awareness in the rural areas involving the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK).

“The council has taken the initiative to bring various government agencies to provide the required information for the people in terms of cleanliness. Sungai Pila is still clean, so take care of the river and don’t pollute it by throwing or dumping your waste into the river,” said Ugak during the launch of ‘Local Agenda 21 & Pembangunan Modal Insan dan Alam Sekitar’ held at Rumah Empang Anak Eba, Sungai Pila in Batang Rajang. He was also impressed at the modern 24-door concrete longhouse of Rumah Empang which was built with a proper drainage system, ample open space and clean compound, standard design from one end to another and equipped with a solar system to supply electricity.

He also announced a grant of RM60,000 to the council of which RM10,000 was for the council’s Sports and Recreational Club (KADICO) to carry out its activities for the coming year and RM50,000 for the council to carry out its LA 21 and community development programme under Hulu Rajang constituency next year.
