BETONG: The RM14mil Spaoh Sports Complex is scheduled to be completed by March next year.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas yesterday said the complex, which consists of a grandstand, football field and a running track, was 64.60 per cent done.

He confirmed this during a recent visit to a number of development projects being undertaken in Betong and Spaoh over the weekend.

Among the major ones are the Betong Rural Produce Market, the Spaoh Waterfront and the Spaoh Sports Complex projects.

Uggah also noted that the RM6.4mil Spaoh Waterfront-cum-bank erosion mitigation project was 58.23 per cent completed.

“It is expected to be fully completed by the end of October this year.

“On the RM5mil Betong Rural Produce Market, now at 95 per cent completion, it will be fully done by September this year,” he added.

Accompanying him were Dr Richard Rapu, a political secretary to the Chief Minister; Betong Division Resident Friday Belik and Betong District Council secretary Charlie Keling.

He also had a meeting with Friday and heads of departments supervising the implementation of the projects.

Uggah also visited Rh Anyai Manggi in Luban Ili, Spaoh to assess the construction of the 33-door longhouse.

During his visit, he announced the approval of a government grant for RM99,000 under his minor rural project (MRP) and Poor Housing Upgrading Programme (PPRMS) to buy construction material.

According to Richard, since 2017, all 94 longhouses and many other individual Chinese and Malay houses in Uggah’s Bukit Saban constituency had benefitted from such allocation.

“We are now actually proceeding on our second round of such assistance from the government.” he said.

Uggah also visited the construction of the drainage system in Kampung Pengan, the watergate project in Kampung Hilir and other rural transformation projects in Munggu Gerenis in Spaoh, Samu and in Rapong Debak.
