KUCHING: The ‘Seminar on New Initiatives to Enhance Sarawak’s Construction Industry’ is a joint effort to address the problems faced by industry players due to the effects of Covid-19 and to help the industry to recover.

The seminar jointly organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, State Financial Secretary, Public Works Department Sarawak (JKRS) and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) was held at the Borneo Conference Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (Feb 8).

Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the first objective of the seminar is to introduce effective new strategies to aid in the recovery of the industry and implementation of projects under the purview of Sarawak post-Cvoid-19.

Secondly, to empower the various key industry players with the new initiatives by the state government.

“The seminar also exposes the industry players to new paradigm shifts where strategic enhancements and innovative efforts have been duly integrated into project management and contract administration procedures. This is the key to continuous success in project delivery and improved services for the rakyat.

“At the same time, the seminar provides and establishes a platform for simulation and sharing of ideas, perspectives, and experiences between key players in the built industry,” he said in his welcoming address.

With over 250 participants taking part, Uggah hoped that participants will be able to work together to share their knowledge and gain new insights.

He expressed confidence that penetrating insights and pointed anecdotes garnered during the seminar will reveal a holistic and explicit pathway for effective project management and implementation.

This is to enable industry players to adapt to emerging trends as well as have the power and wisdom to take advantage of the opportunities that these changes create.

“It is indeed pertinent and timely for the construction industry, propagated as the economy’s engine of growth, to have a structured framework for its future,” he added.
