BETONG: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas slammed certain parties for belittling Sarawak’s efforts and achievements.
He described these detractors—hired writers—whom he referred to as ‘termites’, as liars and troublemakers.
He stressed that the ‘termite’ culture, which can threaten and disrupt political stability, is irresponsible.
“Sadly, there are people who are jealous of us. Some people think we shouldn’t be successful. So these hired writers, machinery writers, belittle Sarawak’s efforts in achieving all our successes.
“They say Sarawak is lucky. But it’s not luck. Luck has nothing to do with our achievements so far.
“Make sure these ‘termites’ do not spread to other trees. This unhealthy development must be stopped.”
He said this at the Betong Ngabang Gawai Dayak event at the Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall on Wednesday (June 5).
Uggah, who is the Bukit Saban assemblyman, said the political stability and prosperity enjoyed by Sarawak are the results of the hard work of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Therefore, he urged continued support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in efforts to develop Sarawak.
“The Premier knows the right way. And this is the product of his effort, not because of luck.
“And most importantly, he has effective leadership. I have known him since 1978. Since then, I know his vision, struggle, commitment, and loyalty to the party.
“He is firm and courageous. So it’s not by chance, not luck, but we have a leader.”
Towards this end, Uggah called upon all Dayak to be united together with other races.
Additionally, he said the people must play their part to assist the government.
“If we work together, nothing can’t be achieved. Take your children’s education seriously. We, the wakil rakyat, can provide the facilities and subsidies, but the work needs to be done by you.
“I am sure that collaboration will raise your income and we will celebrate achieving high income in Betong by 2030,” he added.
