KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas paid a working visit to Lundu yesterday (Mar 21) to get updates on the area’s agricultural projects.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Relations Unit (Ukas), the trip started with Uggah visiting Tanjung Purun Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) paddy scheme area in Kampung Stunggang Melayu. This development project cost RM13.28 million.
It is reported that a total of 96 farmers participated in the project last year with 88 out of 140 hectares of paddy land being cultivated.
Uggah then proceeded to visit the Sri Gading Area Farmers Organisation’s Kelulut Honey Processing Centre.
Production of kelulut honey in Lundu started in 1999 at Kampung Perian and in 2012 Sri Gading Area Farmers’ Kelulut Honey Processing Centre became a pioneer in beekeeping involving eight Area Farmers Organisation members.
The number of kelulut honey producers registered in under Sri Gading Area Farmers Organisation has also increased to 60.
Sri Gading Area Farmers Organisation has also collaborated with Bayu Gagah Marketing Sdn Bhd to market the honey abroad.
Uggah, who is also the Minister of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development (Manred), then visited Sampadi Prawn Farming Pond in Lundu.
Uggah was accompanied during his visit by Tanjong Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu.
