KUCHING: The Sarawak government will continue to provide support and assistance to Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in its efforts to produce creative, innovative and competitive students and graduates.

In giving this assurance, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state required such skilled manpower to be placed in the management of the state government, public and corporate agencies.

He pointed out that this was to assist in the development of Sarawak and state government to achieve the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Thus, the state government will always provide support to UiTM ― from assisting students and graduates who need scholarships to creating grants for research by academics and students.

“The state government also encourages students to conduct their practical training in the various government agencies,” he said.

The chief minister pointed out that UiTM had many students and graduates who had made great contributions to the improvement of the state and made Sarawak proud.

Although UiTM started off with programmes focusing on business and accounting management, he lauded how the university now offered numerous programmes in engineering, hospitality, agriculture, and sports sciences, among others.

“These programmes are very important in producing students and graduates who will be the workforce and manpower to further develop our state.

“With the PCDS 2030, we want to achieve the aspirations of becoming an advanced state driven by digital data and creative innovations so that the people can enjoy the prosperity of a socioeconomic, social inclusive and sustainable environment,” he said.
