UITM provides advance learning

KUCHING: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM) is committed in supporting the state government’s transformation towards digital economy, said its Sarawak Branch rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali.

“UITM has transformed to realise the vision of the state government to produce quality, skillful and talented human capital that will become the engine that drives and steers Sarawak to greater heights,” he said.

“With the government’s provision of basic and essential infrastructure, UITM should be able to carry out all programmes with initiatives in preparing the younger generation in their pursuit of education in the digital era.”

He said this when speaking at the 1st International Conference on Education in the Digital Ecosystem (ICEdDE 2019) at Riverside Majestic Hotel here, yesterday.

Being Malaysia’s largest institution of higher learning in terms of size and population of approximately 160,957 students and 17,488 staff since its inception in 1956, UITM currently operates with 35 campuses and 21 affiliated colleges nationwide.

Jamil stated, “To date, UITM has adopted many initiatives to address the fast speed of technology in the digital ecosystem.

“As early as December 2005, UITM introduced i-Learn Centre, responsible for e-learning. The vision of implementing the use of technology in education is to establish UITM as a premier university based on intelligence and academic excellence through e-Learning.

“Week without Walls@UITM was also introduced in March 2018 for students to study online without being confined to the four walls of the classrooms.”

He further stated that the latest initiative was the Education 5.0@UITM, aimed at high impact educational practice; global learning, where students gain a more expansive understanding and consciousness about various fields.

“Students also can interrogate and reflect and learn about the world without physically crossing a geographic border,” he added.
