SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak campus of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and the Sarawak State Library have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to encourage collaborative activities such as academic, research, and intellectual engagement.

The collaborations will include staff exchanges between the two institutions, the coordination of symposiums, conferences, short-term courses, and meetings on research-related topics, as well as the sharing of information about teaching, staff and student development, practical training for students, and partnerships with research institutions.

On their respective websites and by collaboration in any other area that may be agreed upon from time to time, both parties will also promote information and actions with one another that fall under the purview of the MoU.

UiTM Sarawak rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali noted that the institution was always willing to share its expertise with the community.

As such, he said that the two parties’ cooperation would initially manifest itself in projects like the transcription of Malay manuscripts held in the Sarawak State Library by experts from the UiTM Sarawak campus.

“Then, we’ll collaborate to publish books, articles, or other scientific materials, and take part in exhibitions like STEM PLAYGROUND hosted by the State Library,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the MoU signing ceremony between UiTM Sarawak campus and State Library at Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR) UiTM Sarawak Campus 2 yesterday (Dec 1).

On the same note, Sarawak State Library chief executive officer Japri Bujang Masli expressed his anticipation for all parties’ support in ensuring the MoU’s success.

“We will set up a committee to revisit this MOU to make sure that we can achieve as much as possible. We want to optimise this MoU.

“We think that by combining UiTM’s brains with our collections (in the State Library) and the technical knowledge of our librarians, we will be able to look back and analyse all of those things and try to reflect on what we are doing now and how we will move forward with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“I am confident that we can do great things together,” said Japri.
