KOTA SAMARAHAN: McDonald’s Road Tour programme can potentially lead to more collaboration opportunities for the development of students and graduates of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Rector of UiTM Sarawak Prof. Datuk Dr. Jamil Hamali said it is expected to provide opportunities for student development and industrial training programmes, career talks and opportunities, consultancy work, contracted research projects, and other initiatives that add value to the two-way collaboration.
He noted that the Industrial Networking Unit under UiTM’s Research and Industrial Networking Division aims to strengthen and establish bilateral relationships, especially with government agencies and industries.
It aims to facilitate industry collaboration with UiTM for learning and industrial training purposes, as well as providing job opportunities to students.
“This joint programme with McDonald’s is seen as fulfilling these objectives, as it fosters and instills entrepreneurial values among students and enhances their employability, including access to employment opportunities for UiTM graduates,” he said.
He said this during the UiTM – McD Road Tour (Borneo Zone) programme at UiTM Sarawak held at Ruai Penggawa, UiTM Sarawak, Monday (May 15).
He hoped the collaboration with McD would not be limited to the current programme and that future collaborations could be pursued through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to benefit the local community and contribute to socio-economic development.
“The collaboration between both parties in research and consultancy is seen as a way to contribute to discoveries, including exploring new processes, product innovation, and more,” he added.
Meanwhile, McDonald’s Recruitment Officer, Amirah Arif, said that she herself was a former UiTM student who joined the company as an intern and eventually became an employee at the headquarters.
“Therefore, because of that, I would like to encourage UiTM students to join this company so that we can together progress and advance in the future,” she said.
“God willing, we can establish more collaborations through organising programmes and the like with UiTM Sarawak in the future.”
The event, which took place from 8am to 12pm was attended by over 150 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Business Management, UiTM Sarawak, majoring in Marketing, Finance, and International Business.
The event also included a sharing session by McDonald’s, where they discussed three important matters related to graduate employability programmes, student placements and the Management Trainee Programme.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Rector of Research and Industrial Networking of UiTM Sarawak, Prof. Dr. Abang Zainoren Abang Abdurahman and McDonald’s Malaysia Sarawak Recruitment Officer, Zulhafeez Hasbollah.
