MUKAH: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Mukah campus for the first time organised a Majlis Iftar Perdana with Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib yesterday (Apr 17).
The event at Surau Ibnu Khaldun was organised in collaboration with Sarawak State Astana, Mukah Resident Office, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue office, Information Department, Public Works Department and Department of Agriculture.
It was part of UiTM Sarawak branch’s 50th anniversary celebration and was also held in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.
About 450 guests, including students from the Mukah campus, attended the event.
Among those present were UiTM rector Professor Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali and wife Datin Marilyn Edna Perreau, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine and Mukah Resident Kueh Lei Poh.
At the event, Taib and Raghad presented donations to the less fortunate among the students and the community in Mukah, handing over zakat (tithes) and donations from the Raghad Foundation to the students.
The event also saw the presentation of donations from Astana Negeri to 50 ‘asnaf’ from around Mukah, Balingian, Dalat, Igan and Oya amounting to RM12,500 and donations to 50 students of UiTM Sarawak branch totalling RM10,000.
Also present were cheques from the Sarawak Islamic Council to representatives of mosques and suraus around Mukah amounting to RM158,000 and a donation from the Masjid Setia Raja Mukah Trust Board to representatives of mosques and suraus around Mukah and Balingian totalling RM85,000.
