MARUDI: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) continued its ‘Ngabang Gawai’ programme at the Rumah Gawong Sungai Selejau Asal Marudi yesterday (May 28).

The programme was held in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration, which is a symbol of gratitude for the blessings and achievements attained by the Dayak community.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, who attended the event said open house practises like this aimed to strengthen camaraderie, understanding, and harmony among the diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural groups, especially in Sarawak.

He said the differences in ethnicity, race, religion, and culture in Sarawak are respected among one another and have become a way of life of the people in Sarawak.

The Mulu assemblyman added that the government not only recognises and respects the diversity of Sarawak society but also encourages every ethnic group to preserve and promote its own culture and traditions.
