KUCHING: Embarking on an exciting venture, the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) is delving into podcasts to deliver accurate information about state government policies and initiatives.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol revealed that the initiative aligns with the Premier’s goal to enhance UKAS’ role beyond social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok.

He said podcasts, as a growing medium, provide a platform to discuss current issues and government agendas.

“He (Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) recently mentioned the ‘Keluar Sekejap’ podcast hosted by Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.

“He asked if UKAS could develop a similar podcast. Therefore, we will explore this opportunity, as it is one of our priorities.

“In addition, the podcast does not necessarily need to centre on government issues. He wants it to initially cover topics like elderly individuals discussing the benefits of the Kenyalang Gold Card, for example,” he said  during the launch of the UKAS Bulletin English Edition at the UKAS Studio here yesterday (Mar 12).

The deputy minister commended the UKAS team for their efforts and expressed plans to incorporate sign language for broader accessibility.

“Congratulations to everyone on this success, which is another historic event. We started with Bahasa Malaysia, followed by Bahasa Iban, then we added Bahasa Mandarin and now English.

“We will also train someone in sign language to ensure that every announcement is accessible to all layers of society,” he added.

The launch event was also attended by various officials, including Deputy Secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee and UKAS Director Samuel Simon.
