KUCHING: Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) will be revamped next year for effective dissemination of news between public agencies and the community, especially in the rural areas.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the revamp plans will include setting up new sections within UKAS to ensure news is disseminated effectively locally and at the national level.
He said the unit will also work closely with other government agencies.
“UKAS will continue to communicate with public relations units of other agencies to ensure all the government agencies can work together.
“This is to ensure accurate information is spread and avoid the spread of inaccurate information,” he said at the UKAS Sehati Sejiwa dinner here on Sunday (Dec 11).
He said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had informed him that UKAS would play an important role to ensure close rapport with other government agencies.
Abdullah Saidol also said the exchange and dissemination of news should be a two-way traffic.
“It’s not going to be one way, we need to have a flow of information and news from the government to the people as well as from the people to the government.
“Hopefully the government is able to formulate a better policy for development plans for the benefit of the community,” he said.
Among those present were Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) director Samuel Simon and several media practitioners from respective media agencies.
