Ulu Katibas fire victims get aid from various parties

SONG: Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan provided immediate assistance to the residents of Rumah Sebom Bantan in Nanga Masak, Ulu Katibas, who were victims of a fire on Oct 4.

Nanta, represented by his political secretary Ambrose Abong Bugek, and Lidam, presented RM1,000 in monetary assistance to each of the 32 household heads (KIR), as well as RM1,500 to the next of kin of a resident who died in the incident.

The donation was presented in a brief ceremony at the meeting room of the Song District Office.

The Song District Social Welfare Department (JKM) also distributed dry food aid and construction materials worth RM5,000 to the households, in addition to sleeping equipment, kitchen equipment, pocket money and clothing.

The incident also received the attention of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Kapit Branch, who donated food items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, coffee powder, biscuits, mineral water, noodles and 13 boxes of used clothing donated by various parties.

In the incident, 32 doors of this longhouse were completely destroyed, and an elderly person in his 90s lost his life.

Also present at the handover were acting Song District officer Harry Bruce Edwin, Kapit MRCS representative James Ling, Song JKM representatives Jacklina Liong and Jefferson Morry Niru, and Tuai Rumah Sebom Bantan.
