KUCHING: Miri City Council (MCC) has cautioned the public that the Facebook page under the name ‘Miri City Council’ has been opened without the permission and prior consent of MCC.

They said another Facebook account under the name ‘Pujut Residence Page’ was also using the logo of MCC without prior consent from the council.

“MCC wishes to point out that so far it has not opened any account with Facebook under the name of ‘Miri City Council’.

“‘Pujut Residence Page’ is also not related to any official setup of the council, though it has an image of the council’s logo on the home page – the account holder is using it without consent from the council,” said MCC in a statement on Thursday (Jan 28).

In view of this, the council said it would not take any responsibility for any comments and undertakings posted within those accounts.

They also called upon the holder of the so-called ‘Miri City Council’ Facebook account to remove their account as well as the holder of ‘Pujut Residence Page’ to remove the council’s logo from their Facebook account.

“The council has taken action to report to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the unauthorised usages.”

On another matter, MCC urged the public to directly communicate via Miri CARES app and welcomed constructive views and comments from the public.

“We value such views, complaints, and feedback for our service improvements, which are conveyed through official channels.”

MCC said these official channels included the council’s official website (https://www.miricouncil.gov.my), council’s service hotline (085-424111), MCC Command Centre (085-424 600, 019-2144600), Sarawak Smart City app, Talikhidmat mobile app (082-555999) (statewide), and so on.
