KUCHING: There is a need for an underpass at the roundabout near Emart Matang to divert and ease the flow of the traffic from Matang Jaya to the town centre.
This was suggested by Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house yesterday.
“The underpass has been proposed to the state government for further study of its feasibility and impact on the people.
“The underpass is crucial because it will speed up the flow of traffic following the construction of four lanes from Matang Jaya to Malihah.
Fazzrudin added that he will continue to fight for the underpass because it is the best solution for the traffic problem as seen in the case of Temenggong Abang Kipali roundabout in Petra Jaya.
On budget allocation, Fazzrudin is confident that it would not be a constraint for the state government which has a new source of income from the five per cent sales tax imposed on petroleum products.
“The Sarawak government has already begun collecting the sales tax and so far, all oil companies operating in the state have started paying except for Petronas,” he concluded.
