BETONG: One hundred recipients from the underprivileged group in the Iban community received donations of two bags of rice, cooking oil and cash of RM100 each.

The donations were handed over by Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu during a nceremony in conjunction with the Gawai festival at the Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Centre on Saturday (May 20).

In his speech, Gerald said the assistance was significant in helping the recipients to prepare for purchasing necessities ahead of Gawai.

“Donations like this are very helpful, especially when we are facing high prices of goods and contribute to fostering unity, harmony and a conducive atmosphere for development programmes.

“I am impressed by the involvement of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Betong in community activities, not only during festive occasions but also during disasters or emergencies.

“The Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Centre, the Buddhist association and other NGOs are always sensitive and caring towards the local community,” he added.
