KUCHING: A 42-year-old unemployed man who threatened to kill his wife when she refused to give him money for drugs was fined RM2,700 in default three months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here yesterday.
Tan Kok Peng, who was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
The offence provides for up to seven years in prison or a fine or both.
According to the facts of the case, Tan had threatened his wife on April 1 at around 2.15pm at their home here.
Incensed when she refused to give him money so he could buy drugs he shouted, “I want to kill you” in Mandarin, prompting her to file a police report as she feared for her safety.
The couple, who are foreigners, have been married for 12 years and have two children.
Tan has had four previous convictions for criminal intimidation and drug abuse cases.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case.
