Unemployed pays price for rampage at family home

KUCHING: An unemployed man who lost his head after his mother refused to give him money was fined RM3,500 in default spend three months in prison here today.

He was handed the penalty for damaging his mother’s property and threatening to kill his neighbour during a rampage at a flat on June 25.

Zuhair Abdullah, 22, from Kampung Bintawa Hilir pleaded guilty to two charges read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

On the first charge, he was accused under Section 427 of the Penal Code of intentionally damaging a bedroom door, plastic wardrobe and a mirror owned by his 20-year-old sister.

Zubaidah imposed a fine of RM1,500 or one month in prison for this offence.

On the second count, Zuhair stood accused under Section 506 of the Penal Code with intentionally uttering words containing criminal threats against a 51-year-old man.

For this offence, Zubaidah sentenced him to a fine of RM2,000 or two months in prison.

Based on the facts of the case, Zuhair went on a rampage, damaging a bedroom door, wardrobe and smashing his sister’s mirror, after his mother refused to give him money suspecting that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Zuhair also threatened to burn his neighbour’s house while brandishing a vegetable knife, after being reprimanded for making a commotion in the house corridor.

The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Nursyafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Zuhair was not represented by a lawyer.
