KUCHING: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) wants to collaborate with Sarawak to empower children by educating them on their rights.

UNICEF representative to Malaysia Robert Gass said Sarawak is among the states leading in efforts to enhance the well-being of children.

He said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had expressed his desire to invest in early childhood education.

“One of the areas discussed by the Premier is investment in early childhood education which can lead to economic prosperity, progress, safety, and support for the elderly, which is also of concern and priority.

“So, early childhood education is one of the areas. We know that digital transformation and digital advancement are also important to him. UNICEF also focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and wants to ensure accessibility for all,” he said.

Gass made these remarks after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here, today.
