KUCHING: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), through TM Sarawak, has expanded its unifi service to Bintangor in the Sarikei division.

The service expansion is part of the group’s continuous commitment in bringing high speed broadband connectivity to suburban and underserved areas, particularly in Sarawak.

Bintangor is the latest addition to the 39 areas with unifi coverage in Sarawak.

The achievement was signified with the launch of unifi Dah DiSitok @Bintangorevent which was launched by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, TM said in a media statement.

Also present during the event was Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, MCMC Sarawak chief Adiman Ajem and TM Sarawak general manager Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff.

The Meradong assemblyman said the expansion was much welcomed as it signified TM’s continuous effort to bring high speed broadband connectivity to more sub-urban areas of Sarawak.

“This will promote the digital economy and the adoption of a more digital lifestyle amongst the local citizens is hoped to boost the growth of local industries and propel Sarawak’s digital economy,” Ding added.

He, however, advised the people that while the Internet opens the door to vast opportunities, they needed to use it responsibly.

Jafer said that the expansion reflects TM’s support towards the Jalinan Digital Negara (Jendela) action plan recently announced by the government which aspired to deliver connectivity for all.

He noted that the need for digital connectivity had now increased exponentially.

“With the nation adapting to the new normal, digital communications are even more essential than before. Thus, the planning and deployment of future-proof digital infrastructure that supports the economic sectors and new growth areas have become more important,” he added.

TM said to date, more than 240,000 premises in the state are enjoying the service in Sarawak.

At the event, TM Sarawak also rewarded selected customers of unifi and unifi Lite from its consumer and small and medium enterprise (SME) segments in Bintangor for their long-term loyalty.
