SEBAUH: Sarawak Agriculture Modernisation and Regional Development Minister and Kemena assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom yesterday handed over the first phase allocation amounting to RM5 million for the construction of the new Sebauh District Roman Catholic Church.
The symbolic handover of the cheque from the Other Religious Affairs Unit (Unifor), Sarawak Premier’s Department was presented to Miri Roman Catholic Church Bishop Richard Ng in the meeting room of Sebauh District Office.
The implementation period of this project is expected to take two years and is planned to start in the middle of 2023.
The estimated cost of building the church which includes other facilities such as halls, offices, meeting rooms and classrooms is worth RM11.09 million.
The allocation to build this church is channelled directly to the church through Unifor in phases.
It is understood that the latest status of this project is still in the application preparation process.
The new Sebauh church has a capacity of up to 1,000 people and is located next to the site of the new Sebauh District Mosque.
