KUCHING: Four more houses of worship in Miri have received grants from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) in a news report, Tourism, Arts, and Culture Assistant Minister and Piasau assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting handed over a special allocation of RM150,000 from Unifor to Gurwara Sahid in Miri.
“This is the third allocation from Unifor to Gurwana Sahid, which will be used to build facilities at the Sikh Temple,” he said during the grant handover ceremony on Saturday (Sept 4).
Ting said previously, Girwara Sahid had received the first contribution of RM160,000 and the second contribution of RM200,000.
“These three allocations amounting to RM510,000 will be used to rebuild the kitchen, hall and dining area,” he said, adding that the construction project was 45 percent completed and is expected to be ready by January next year.
Besides that, Ting also presented the Unifor grants to Lian Hua San Ching Tien Temple and Hai Long Si Temple respectively.
Lian Hua San Ching Tien Temple received an allocation of RM100,000 for the purpose of repairing and maintaining the San Ching Temple, the largest Taoist temple in Southeast Asia.
Hai Long Si Temple received an allocation of RM500,000 to repair its building.
At the same time, Unifor also approved another RM100,000 to the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Church located at Jalan Airport, Miri for it to upgrade its church facilities.
“Under Phase 1, Unifor approved RM100,000 for the church to upgrade its facilities
“Overall, the total amount contributed by Unifor to BEM Church at Jalan Airport is RM450,000; the existing allocation of RM350,000 was presented today,” he said.
