KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) has disbursed more than RM400 million since its establishment in 2017, supporting Sarawak’s diverse religious communities.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the establishment of UNIFOR and its significant allocation in the state budget reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to inclusivity.
“This is part of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari’s inclusive policies.
“Inclusivity is demonstrated through actions, not just words. Many say ‘no money, no talk,’ but I believe that without money, we can achieve very little. With funding, we can accomplish much more.
“This financial support is a crucial part of our efforts in nation-building for Sarawak,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Vaisakhi Dinner at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) here last night (May 18).
Meanwhile, he also highlighted the role of the UNIFOR Charitable Trust in assisting Sarawakians of different races.
He explained that UNIFOR is a government agency under the Premier’s Department, while the UNIFOR Charitable Trust operates as a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
“The Premier has been very generous in providing funds to build the UNIFOR Trust Building. By this time next year, we should be able to host a dinner in the new UNIFOR Trust Building,” he said.
Dr Sim also stressed the importance of the UNIFOR Charitable Trust.
“As an NGO, the Trust remains independent of future government changes. The Premier has been exceptionally kind in granting us licenses, which, along with contributions from directors, will generate revenue for the Trust. This allows us to continue supporting Sarawakians of various religions.
“Our collective efforts are driven by a shared mission of nation-building for Sarawak. This unity and dedication highlight how much we have accomplished and will continue to achieve together” he added.
Earlier, Dr Sim also presented a grant allocation from the UNIFOR to the Sarawak Sikh Temple Association (SSTA).
Also present at the dinner were Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) director Datuk Jack Aman Luat, Sarawak Sikh Temple Association president Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira, and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Director Samuel Simon.
