KUCHING: The Christ Baptist Church in Mile 7 here has received an allocation of RM130,000 allocation from the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap who presented the cheque to the church, said the financial assistance is intended for the acquisition of audio and music equipment, as well as other upgrades to the church’s digital and sound systems.
“Sarawak is unique where we have UNIFOR and it is responsible for promoting inter-religious harmony while evaluating, proposing and formulating policies, laws and regulations related to other religions in the state.
“Meanwhile, UNIFOR has also allocated RM110 million to assist the other houses of worship in the state this year,” he said.
He said this after attending the church service and presentation of the UNIFOR cheque at the church here this morning (May 12).
Yap further said that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has achieved success in building a strong multi-religious and multi-racial society.
“However, our society should not take this success for granted. But most importantly, we should continue to promote a culture of respect and mutual appreciation,” he said.
Earlier, in conjunction with Mother’s Day, Yap also took the opportunity to present flowers to three members of the church.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all mothers for their dedication and affection to their families,” said Yap.
