KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) have formalised their cooperation in the field of cybersecurity.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to put this into effect was inked by both parties at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) in Unimas.
The MoU was signed by Gurpardeep Singh, Chief Operating Officer of APU, and Prof. Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit, Vice Chancellor of Unimas.
“We are indeed very excited about this MoU, which aims to actively collaborate on industry-level cybersecurity certification programmes for professionals and students, research and publication in computing-related areas, and the sharing of facilities and expertise for training, curriculum enhancement and research,” said Ahmad Hata on Monday (March11).
“In the past year, Unimas and APU have organised joint events aimed at enhancing cybersecurity knowledge among students and professionals,” he added.
One such event was the talk titled “Hack the Future: Exploring Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning,” which featured Haja Mohideen, the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Rocheston.
As a result of this collaboration, seven Unimas lecturers received their Rocheston Certified Cybersecurity Engineer (RCCE) Level 1 certificates after attending a training programme conducted by Mohideen.
Unimas and APU are recognised as Premier Digital Tech Institutions (PDTI) by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
As PDTIs, they are entrusted with the responsibility of enhancing the quality of computer science programmes and graduates to meet the demands of industry and ensure a robust talent pipeline for Malaysia’s digital economy.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by representatives from key organisations, including MDEC, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), SAINS, Centexs, AL AiN IT Consultants Sdn Bhd, SM Digital Innovation Sdn Bhd, Intel Penang, and the Women and Family Department Sarawak.
