KOTA SAMARAHAN: The 27th convocation ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) celebrates the graduation of 3,897 students who earned degrees at various academic levels.

The ceremony, which runs until Nov 9, was graced on Day 1 by the presence of Premier and Unimas pro chancellor, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The first day of the convocation on Monday (Nov 6) honoured 544 graduates and featured the presentation of academic awards, including the Anugerah Pelajar Diraja for both Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera categories.

Additionally, the Chancellor’s Award and Pro-Chancellor’s Award were presented to exceptional graduates who excelled academically and in co-curricular activities during their studies at Unimas.

Some awardees shared their thoughts:

Melanie Lenon Atat (Anugerah Pelajar Diraja – Bumiputera)

“I am grateful to be honoured as Anugerah Pelajar Diraja recipient. This recognition shows that the university values the successes I’ve achieved throughout my time as a student at Unimas.”

Aina Sophea Salahuddin (Chancellor’s Award)

“I was very surprised and excited to receive the Chancellor’s Award after facing various challenges during my four-year studies, especially with Covid-19. This recognition is a source of great pride.”

Melvin Jangga Rupitan (Pro-Chancellor’s Award)

“Receiving the Pro-Chancellor’s Award is an achievement I never expected. However, I am very grateful because it is proof that I have contributed significantly to Unimas.”
