KUCHING: 1,000 Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) students will return to campus for their Semester 2 2020/2021.
In a statement, vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said 650 students were from Sarawak while 350 were from West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan.
He said two colleges on campus would be used for monitoring and quarantine purposes.
“Kolej Cempaka will be the monitoring centre for students from Sarawak while Kolej Rafflesia will be the quarantine centre for students from West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan.”
The faculties that require final year students to have face-to-face teaching and learning sessions are Faculty of Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development.
He also said the students were required undergo quarantine for 14 days and swab tests.
“The students will arrive in stages and they are allowed to start their classes after undergoing the 14-day quarantine as well as monitoring. I hope that they will comply with the standard operating procedures.
“Previously, there were approximately 1,600 students on campus while 14,000 students were doing online learning. As for students who have problems with Internet connectivity, we allow them to be on campus but they must follow rules.”
He also expressed his appreciation to university staff and agencies like Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, the police as well as Fire and Rescue Department for ensuring that the final year students arrive safely at the campus.
