KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) yesterday created history for being the first university in Malaysia to implement digital identification system for its students and staff. The varsity implemented the use of Student Digital ID using QR Code.
Minister of Higher Education (MoHE) Malaysia Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh said the implementation of the Student ID using QR Code by Unimas in fact reflects its capability.
“It took only one month for Unimas to implement the Student Digital ID using QR Code. And this is something that we are proud of and we want to see other universities also using Student Digital ID,” he said.
Idris disclosed this to reporters at a press conference after officiating at the varsity’s Silver Jubilee Conference 2017 (USJC2017) at Pullman Hotel Kuching here yesterday.
Idris said the introduction of Student Digital ID will lead to implementation of ICGPA (Integrated Cumulative Grade Point) and also students portfolio or CV which will be done digitally, and what can be accessed also are their academic achievement but also their capabilities in the field of communication, entrepreneurships, practical skills and also their ethics.
Idris said he was very proud with the overall achievement of Unimas over the last 25 years and in Asian University’s Ranking it has climbed up from 261 to 257 which is a significant improvement.
According to Idris, ICGPA had been implemented in all the universities through Malaysia since the past two years, but from what he saw it was Unimas which had implemented it entirely.
