KOTA SAMARAHAN: New students of the 2024/2025 session at University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) have been encouraged to embrace five core values to shape themselves into responsible individuals who can contribute to the development of Sarawak and Malaysia.

UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit highlighted five core values: exemplary, integrity, equity, tenacity, and collegiality.

“Number one is exemplary, which means you become the role model towards not only for yourself, but for your family, your community, and others. You be the best.

“Second is integrity, to which you are always doing the right thing and standing by it, even if no one is looking at you.

“Third is equity, to always be fair in everything that we do,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the 2024/2025 session student pledge ceremony at Arena Gemilang DeTAR Putra UNIMAS here today.

Additionally, Ahmad Hata said tenacity, which means continuous learning from one’s mistake.

“And that would make you even more successful in the future. Lastly is collegality, which means you cannot do some things on your own.

“You need a group of people to do it in order to produce a great quality body of work,” he added.

On the pledge, Ahmad Hata hoped the students would be committed to becoming one of the best in Malaysia and the world.

“At the same time, we will ensure that students have a supportive environment to reach their full potential, further developing themselves to contribute to future generations,” he said.

Among those present during the ceremony was UNIMAS board of directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie.
