KOTA SAMARAHAN: A licensing and commercialisation agreement was signed last Tuesday (Sept 15) between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Iman Insani Sdn Bhd to market and distribute a research product developed by Unimas.

The research product ‘Biogenic Fish Feed’, which was developed by Dr Mohammad Bodrul Munir of the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, has been proven to enhance the growth of fish.

As the price of fish feed has been on an upward trend, this has proven to be a major challenge for the aquaculture industry.

This biogenic fish feed product will assist the fish industry in Malaysia by reducing the costs of fish feed as fish breeders are currently relying on imported fish feed from Vietnam, Thailand and Japan.

The product will help maintain the price of fish at an affordable level and provide employment opportunities.

Furthermore, this will also provide business opportunities for micro-enterprises and entrepreneurs in rural areas to venture into fish farming as well as becoming suppliers for feed ingredients.

This project also proves that the local research and development is on par with international standard.
