Unimas inks two memorandums of agreement

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Business School (UBS) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Asteel Sdn Bhd and DH Borneo Training & Services Sdn Bhd during a ceremony held at Koompassia Excelsa Gallery, Unimas on yesterday (Aug 14)

Signing on behalf of UBS was the chairman cum vice-chancellor of Unimas Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, while signing on behalf of Asteel Sdn Bhd was managing director of Asteel Sdn Bhd Datuk Seri Victor Hii Lu Thian, and for DH Borneo Training & Services Sdn Bhd was its managing director Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo.

Speaking during the ceremony, Prof Kadim reiterates his steadfast support for academia and industry linkages.

“I hope that through this collaboration, we will work together to provide quality professional and executive programmes and short courses to suit the needs and requirements of our workforce and the community at large,” he said during the ceremony which was also streamed via Zoom.

The MOA with Asteel Sdn Bhd signifies the official commencement of the one-year modular executive leadership development programme (ELDP) to upskill 11 Asteel managers.

It is mentioned that ELDP trainers are from two faculties in Unimas, namely the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development and the Faculty of Economics and Business.

In addition, Victor from Asteel Sdn Bhd reaffirms that its people remain as the greatest assets and is honoured to partner with UBS to cultivate a strong talent ecosystem for Asteel, in line with its five-year master plan.

“We firmly believe that it is significantly important for our leaders in the company to continue to enhance their personal and core competencies towards achieving high standards of work excellence. 

“The curated ELDP programme will equip our employees with skills that will help them with their future leadership roles to meet our exponential expansion and growth,” he said.

Meanwhile the second MOA was with DH Borneo Training & Services Sdn Bhd, a consultancy agency offering various training services, conducting training modules tailored to meet critical job market demands and adding value to employability.

Its managing director, Mohammad Arifiriazul highlighted that its modules include the International Scheme for Certification of Personnel Competencies (IECE x CoPC) to provide cross-industry competencies for work associated with safety requirements in hazardous areas and explosive atmospheres.

“DH Borneo Training & Services Sdn Bhd also enlists SIRIM QAS International to assess its candidates upon the completion of the courses to maintain standards and impartiality as well as to avoid conflict of interests,” he added.
