KUCHING: The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Innovation and Technology Exposition 2023 (InTEX23) serves as a prime platform for inventors, researchers, and designers to showcase their creations and ideas.
Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said participants can exhibit their inventions, designs, prototypes, and products to potential investors, manufacturers, distributors, and marketers who are seeking fresh concepts for collaboration and commercialisation.
He mentioned that 35 per cent of the showcased research products in this year’s edition are from 16 external participants, and the panel of judges includes 63 per cent representation from the industry.
“With the theme ‘Research and Discovery’, InTEX23 is an annual event fostering a research and innovation ecosystem. This year, it was organised in conjunction with the Borneo Business Research Conference (BBRC) 2023 and the Pusaka Chair, hosted respectively by the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Institute of Creative Arts and Technology.
“BBRC and Pusaka Chair aim to provide a platform for research groups, academics, and students to facilitate networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration to advance research and innovation. Papers submitted to these events undergo peer review, and selected papers might be considered for publication in indexed journals,” said Prof Kadim.
He was speaking during the closing ceremony of Unimas InTEX23 here on Thursday (Aug 24).
Prof Kadim added that in total, InTEX23, BBRC and Pusaka Chair drew over 200 submissions of papers and projects from Unimas, national and international participants.
On another note, this year holds particular significance for Unimas, he said, as it is designated as the “Year of Research and Discovery”. Under this theme, Unimas aims to channel research and discovery efforts within the university towards social innovation.
“Through Research and Discovery, there’s a shift in research approach, repositioning from fundamental and applied research to high-tech research outputs. This approach highlights the university’s commitment to empowering translational research projects that leave an impact on stakeholders, especially the government, industry, and community.
“In our quest for research excellence, impactful translational research is paramount. This kind of research benefits the wider community through engagement, reinforcement, and intensification of research and discovery within our academic community,” he stressed.
